June 14 - 20
Two important annual holidays are observed in America this week, Flag Day, June 14 and Juneteenth, June 19.
According to Britannica.com, Flag Day, also called National Flag Day, in the United States is a day to honor the national flag, observed on June 14. The holiday commemorates the date in 1777 when the United States approved the design of its first national flag. This day is an opportunity for all Americans to celebrate freedom and liberty in the United States.
Juneteenth, according to the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation, is an annual observance on June 19 to remember when Union soldiers enforced President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation (Jan. 1, 1863) and freed all remaining slaves in Texas on June 19, 1865. This day is an opportunity for all Americans to celebrate freedom and liberty in the United States.
The team at Donya's Florals thought we would honor these historical holidays by designing and delivering beautiful florals to/for our customers as per usual and that would suffice. We'd continue the following week for Father's Day celebrations.
However, it would be neglectful not to acknowledge the racial tensions and injustice in our great country today, particularly after countless deaths of unarmed Americans. We can decide to be silent and operate until the moment passes, we can believe it's not as bad as the 40s, 50s and 60s so leave well enough alone, we can believe life as we know it will never change, or we can add our voices and actions to the positive change needed for future generations.
The tone of America cannot truly lift past this moment until the labels formed to separate us are dissolved and until the ideals of Flag Day and Juneteenth are not just symbolic gestures but instead full freedom manifested in the lives of all Americans.
Donya's Florals is not a black-owned company, we are a retail floral company designing the best, the brightest, and the most beautiful florals in the world for customers all over the world to love and to enjoy.
